FYFxLOMO is the digital presence for an ambitious art project — a showcase of analog photography and music from the 2010 FYF Festival in Los Angeles.
In addition to the client wanting a unique design which was just rough enough around the edges to stay true to the analog nature of the photography, there were a few interesting technical challenges to overcome.
One major challenge involved the requirement of an embedded MP3 player which keeps playing as the user browses the site. Normal browsing behavior would cause the player to reload and restart on each pageview. Using AJAX to selectively load new content without disturbing the player seemed promising, but opened the door to issues such as the displayed URL being out of sync with the content being displayed.
The vast majority of users will have no idea of the interesting things going on behind the scenes as they browse the site, and quite frankly that's a good thing. Complex or not, things should just work.
